Swissmedic: First Module of Medical Devices Database live

The new "swissdamed" medical devices platform has been gradually rolled out since 6 August 2024. The first release of the "Actors" module enables economic operators to register online.

The aim of swissdamed is to increase transparency by gathering, processing, and publishing information about medical devices and the companies involved, such as manufacturers. The platform consists of two modules, an "Actors Module" and a "Devices Module", and a freely accessible website. Economic actors are now being registered there and, in the course of 2025, certain medical devices will also be registered voluntarily.

To preserve equivalence between the Swiss and EU regulations and minimise the effort for economic operators, swissdamed resembles the corresponding modules of the European database EUDAMED. Device registration will become mandatory only when swissdamed has been sufficiently developed and relevant amendments have been made to the MedDO / IvDO.
