German Cannabis Law Comes into Force on 1 April
On 22 March, the German Cannabis Law was passed by the Bundesrat. The law will therefore come into force on 1 April as planned.
The Federal Ministry of Health summarises the key points of the new law as follows: With the Cannabis Act, the private home cultivation of up to three cannabis plants for personal consumption as well as the communal, non-commercial home cultivation for personal consumption in cultivation associations or cooperatives for adults will be permitted from 1 April 2024. At the same time, the law strengthens health protection, child and youth protection, prevention and education. Possession of up to 25 grams of cannabis in public places will remain unpunished. At the same time, a general ban on advertising and sponsorship applies to both cannabis and cultivation associations.
