FDA: President Biden nominates Dr. Robert Califf for FDA commissioner
Finally, the long-awaited nomination for the next FDA commissioner is here. President Biden has nominated Dr. Robert Califf, a clinical trial expert and founding director of the Duke Clinical Research Institute.
He is also the former head of the FDA who already served as a Commissioner from February 2016 to January 2017. Since leaving the FDA in 2017, Califf has worked as a senior adviser to Alphabet's life sciences arm Verily and has continued teaching, research and clinical duties at Duke University School of Medicine.
The nomination came just in time, as Dr. Janet Woodcock acting role officially had to end on 15 November 2021, unless a permanent commissioner was nominated at that time.
