What are isolators and what are they used for in the pharmaceutical industry?

Isolators are compact, self-contained devices that provide a barrier between a work process and the external room environment including the operators. They are highly efficient devices for protecting aseptic filling processes against the risk of microbiological contamination. In addition, they also protect personnel against hazards during the processing of highly active substances, especially those in a solid physical state.
