Indian CDSCO plans recruitment of 500 GMP inspectors

According to, the Indian Central Drug Standards Control Organization (CDSCO) is planning to recruit 500 more drug inspectors by the end of 2017. Up to now 147 inspectors have already been trained to enhance inspections of manufacturing units in line with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP).

  • Besides this, CDSCO has set up a five- year plan which also includes new minilabs at port offices and mobile labs with additional new manpower. With these set of measures CDSCO plans to ensure quality of drugs supplied to over 200 countries from India. With growing global requirements CDSCO had in the past started to carry out joint inspections with international regulators to monitor manufacturing plants on GMP and equip native drug inspectors with the necessary knowledge.

To take these actions seems more than necessary. Countries globally are concerned about safety and efficacy of medicines coming from India. Thus, the role of the observer in joint inspections is a step in the right direction.
