What is the difference between a correction and a corrective action?

While the correction pursues exclusively the elimination of the defect – as with the elimination of a symptom – a corrective action is concerned with the elimination of the cause of the defect identified in the root cause analysis. The goal of a correction is to comply with the requirement, while the goal of a corrective action is to prevent the recurrence of the specific defect.
